This varied set of curriculum-linked activities for ages 8-11 explores the issue of healthcare for mothers and babies around the world. These resources work as a series of linked lessons, covering various parts of the curriculum, but most activities can stand alone. There is also an Assembly plan and a PowerPoint slideshow to introduce the issue.
Oxfam is running a campaign to highlight the importance of healthcare for mothers and babies. The campaign revolves around knitting coloured squares for a huge blanket that will be presented to the UK government in September, ahead of an important meeting about providing aid for better healthcare and meeting other internationally agreed poverty reduction targets by 2015. If your school wants to get involved in this campaign, the deadline for Oxfam to receive knitted squares is 1st August 2008.
