Established in 1991, Development in Practice is an international peer-reviewed journal offering practice-based analysis and research on the social dimensions of development and humanitarianism. By challenging current assumptions, the journal seeks to stimulate new thinking and ways of working. It provides a forum for debate and the exchange of ideas among those professionally and intellectually engaged with these issues, from practitioners, academics, and policy shapers, to activists and NGOs. Contributors represent a wide range of cultural and professional backgrounds and interests.

The journal is currently published in February, April, June, August, and November and includes a guest-edited thematic double-issue in each volume.

Praise for Development in Practice

‘Development in Practice is an invaluable resource for those with knowledge gained from experience to relate that knowledge to the various theories, trends, and fashions in development studies and policy - undoubtedly the journal for development practitioners undertaking further studies.’
Helen Hintjens, ISS, The Hague

‘A tremendous source of new ideas and new ways of thinking about development.’
Puja Roy, Terre des Hommes, Germany

‘Combining both depth and lively intelligence, the journal opens up spaces that allow for the exchange of experiences that can feed debate, analysis, and the search for development paradigms that are rooted in practical experience.’
Patricia Ardón, CEDPA, Guatemala

Oxfam GB publishes two development journals; Development in Practice and Gender & Development. Both journals are editorially independent, and articles do not necessarily reflect the policy positions of Oxfam GB. Both journals are co-published with Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group.
